Back Pain

Back Pain can come on suddenly may be from an accident, a fall, or lifting something too heavy or it can develop slowly, perhaps as the result of age-related changes to the spine. For the proper treatment it is very necessary to understand the cause of back pain because only the proper understanding will assist patients in their recovery from back pain.

At some point, back pain affects an estimated 8 out of 10 people. The pain may radiate to other areas or may be constant and it can be felt in the neck, lower back or upper back.

Causes of Back Pain:-

Muscle strains are considered as one of the most common cause of low back pain but in most of the cases back pain due to muscle strains resolve completely within a few weeks.

Herniated disc, which occurs when disk material presses on a nerve, is another common cause of back pain. The treatment of back pain due to this cause depends upon particular individual and situation.

Muscle imbalances, the other reason of low back pain cause a mechanical problem with the skeleton, building up pressure at points along the spine.

Spine injuries such as sprains and fractures can cause either short-lived or chronic pain.

Several medical problems such as scoliosis, which causes curvature of the spine; spondylolisthesis, occurs when one vertebra in the spinal column slips forward over another; arthritis and spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal column that puts pressure on the spinal cord and nerves.

The other factors such as stress, repressed anger, or depression can also contribute to cause back pain.

Treatment:-

Back pain problems can be minimized to some extent by doing exercises that make the muscles in your back, stomach, hips and thighs strong and flexible. But keep in mind that before doing any exercise you should consult your doctor and follow the doctor's advice. Patients often find help from ice, heat, and medications. Effective pain relief may involve a combination of prescription drugs and over-the-counter remedies.
