An elbow is a joint between the upper arm and lower arm. Any discomfort in
the elbow can occur due to variety of problems.
Some common causes of the elbow pain include:-
Arthritis: - This is one of the most common causes of elbow pain. The two types
of arthritis that results in elbow pain are Osteoarthritis (OA) and Rheumatoid
Arthritis.
Bursitis: - It is an inflammation of a bursa that allows tendons and muscles to
move easily while moving. Bursitis may cause pain in elbow.
Lateral epicondylitis: - It is also known as tennis elbow. It affects the
outside part of elbow. The tennis elbow injury is a common cause of elbow pain
often seen in tennis players and other active individuals. It can occur by any
repeated twisting movements of the hand, wrist or forearm.
Medial epicondylitis: - It is also known as golfer’s elbow. It affects the
inside part of elbow. Golfers are more likely to injure the tendons on the
inside of the elbow, which flex the wrist and fingers.
Tendonitis: - Tendonitis can occur in any of the tendons that surround the
joint. Gardening, using a screwdriver, or overusing your wrist are some of the
familiar causes of elbow tendonitis.
Elbow Sprain: - Due to a sprain of the annular ligament elbow pain can occur.
Fracture: - Any fracture in the elbow bone that can occur after injuries such as
falls, sports injuries, and car accidents may cause elbow pain.
Injury: - An injury on the elbow can cause inflammation.
A serious bone infection, cancer or tumor may cause elbow pain.
Improper blood circulation due to the blockage of arteries may cause elbow pain.
Treatment:-
Treatment varies from problem to problem i.e. it depends entirely on the cause
of the problem. There are numerous types of elbow problems that require clinical
care by a physician or other healthcare professional. Some common treatment
options include: by using ice and heat pads, by doing exercise that will stretch
the muscles and tendons, by physical therapy, by taking pain killers; will help
to relieve elbow pain.
