Leg Pain


Pain in leg is a very common condition that can occur for many reasons ranging from unimportant to life-threatening. You may feel pain in one or both the legs. In case if a patient feels prickling or burning sensations in the legs that is known as paresthesias. The condition of this type must need an immediate medical investigation.



Common Causes of leg pain are:-

Muscular strain due to overuse such as by doing too much exercise can cause leg pain.

Dehydration or low amounts of potassium, sodium, calcium, or magnesium in the blood may cause leg pain.

Trauma or injury, ranging from a bruise to a fracture bone may cause leg pain.

Inflammation of the leg joints caused by arthritis or gout.

Blood clots, such as a deep venous thrombosis that occur from the prolonged bed rest may cause leg pain.

Damage of nerve due to diabetes and vitamin deficiencies may cause leg pain.

Improper blood circulation due to the blockage of arteries may cause leg pain.

A serious bone infection, cancer or tumor may cause leg pain.

Treatment:-

Treatment depends on the cause. Proper stretching and conditioning prior to participation in athletic activity may prevent some pains. By applying ice, taking proper rest, taking proper diet, controlling blood sugar level will help to reduce leg pain.

You should take plenty of fluids throughout the day, especially before, during, and after exercise. Certain medication can improve blood circulation by decreasing blood clotting and opening clogged arteries.

Don’t ignore leg pain or think it goes away on its own. You should consult a doctor in case pain lasts more than three days or when you experience numbness, coldness in your legs or if you notice ulceration or tender lumps below the skin or change in the skin color of your leg.

In order to prevent nerve damage you should not smoke or use tobacco, control your blood sugar level, cholesterol, high blood pressure, and also reduce the amount of alcohol you drink.
